VIBE Festival

Recently our school ran a special event for students in Years 5 – 7 from our school and our region. It was called VIBE and covered exposure to a range of programs and facilities that we offer. This wonderful clip, created by a Year 9 student shows the parameters of the event.

The Library’s contribution to the Vibe festival was an activity called “Treasure Hunt”, a showcase of a wide range of resources to which we provide access. Lots of gold was used in setting it up – and many golden moments are reflected in the images taken on the day. You will recognize where the images shown in the film clip are from the library as you scroll down the page.

The boys are trying to work out how to play Pong – set up using Makey Makey and play dough. You can see the Rasberry Pi on the back of the screen – a $50 dollar mini computer controlling the game on the screen.

Cross school collaboration mastering the amazing Sphero ball and controlling it through a 7″ tablet. The aim was to send the ball through the tube – trickier than it sounds.

Books about Aboriginal Art and information about the Learning Stones initiative were placed close to the activity.

Not sure how the Sphero became airborne!

  1. What a fantastic idea Margaret! Huge amount of planning and preparation but so worth whiled. I can see you being asked to run such a morning in other schools in conjunction with their library staff too. Maybe “they” should bring back Library Advisors (who used to do this sort of thing) or hire you out to other schools!

  2. Hi Margaret,

I love the creative way you interpreted VIBE in your library! A fabulous way to promote all that your library has to offer.

It is fantastic to see your students engaged, collaborating and having fun with so many different “golden” activities and resources….

    Kim 🙂
